Obituary of Richard August Bachmann

Richard August Bachmann, 85, of Dowagiac, Michigan passed away at his home on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Richard was born on February 5, 1928 to the late August and Caroline (Reichter) Bachmann. Richard left school to work on the gladiola farm that he later took over. He was drafted in to the United States Army in 1946 and was stationed in Korea. In January of 1948 Richard wed Emogene Antisdel, together they had five children. He spent much of his time farming the gladiolas and selling them during the summer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing which he did well in to his 80's. When Richard wasn't in the garden he could be found canning or cooking one of his huge meals just so he could divide it up and share it with anyone who wanted some. He was well known for his mile high cherry pies and delicious potato casserole. He is preceded in death by his parents August Bachmann and Caroline Rynsburger, wife Emogene and siblings Katherine Springsteen, Alvina "Cricket" Rosemeier, Albert Bachmann, Martin Bachman, Rose Phelps, Fred Bachmann and Elsie Bachmann. Richard is survived by his children Richard "Jim" Bachmann of Illinois, Barb (Don) Bundy of Dowagiac, Lee Bachmann of Vandalia, Michigan, Gene (Claudia) Bachmann of Cary, North Carolina and Debbie (Tom) Landis of Sister Lakes, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Richard will be interred at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens and his family held a private burial.
