Obituary of Donald Melton

Donald William Melton, 85, of Niles, passed away at home on Thursday, March 23, 2017 with his family by his side. Don was born on November 27, 1931, to the late Richard and Lucy (Vaughn) Melton in Smith County, Kansas. After the passing of his mother at a young age, his father remarried and Donald was raised primarily by Nellie Melton. Don enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War. On June 27, 1953, Don wed the love of his life Mary Alice Webber at a ceremony in Niles. Don loved to go dancing with Mary and was a talented carpenter and even built several miniature doll houses. He worked as a machinist for Bendix until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Melton; grandsons, Adam Hartman and Joe Norris; brother, Alvin Melton; and sister, Doris Harris. Don is survived by his daughters, Kathy Melton of Niles, Renee (Mike) Hartman of Niles and Cheryl Melton of Niles; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a sister, Joan (Leroy) Wake of Cabool, Missouri. A memorial service for Don will be held on Sunday March 26, 2017, at Brown Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Condolences, photos, and memories may be left for the family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com.
