Obituary of Katie Turk
Please share a memory of Katie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen "Katie" Jean Turk, 41, of Battle Creek, was victorious when she passed from this life into the arms of her Savior after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Monday, April 24, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family and friends.
On May 6, 1975, Rudy Turk and Sandra Hickerson-Turk welcomed their daughter into this world in Midland Michigan. After graduating from Meridian High School in 1993, Katie went on to attend Kellogg Community College and earn her Bachelors of Accounting from Sienna Heights University.
Katie was full of life, spunk and always laughter. Her life was built first on her faith, and she knew that He would take care of her every need. She enjoyed playing cards, camping with her brother Kevin and Lexie, and sitting around a camp fire. Katie worked at Goodwill Industries for over ten years while working toward her dream of opening her own business. In 2006, she saw that dream come true and opened Katie's Tax & Accounting Services. She was a member of the Battle Creek BNI group and enjoyed her time singing in the New Hope Choir. But most of all Katie enjoyed spending time with her entire family and especially her daughter, Lexie. They made sure to make every Friday night their "Girls Night". It didn't matter what they were doing, as long as they were together Katie was happy.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harley and Kathleen Hickerson and paternal grandparents, Vern and Johanna Turk.
Katie is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter, Alexandria "Lexie" Turk of Battle Creek, father, Rudy (Sandy) Turk of Hope, mother, Sandra Hickerson-Turk of Midland, brother, Kevin Turk of Midland, a very special cousin and best friend, Mandy Rodriguez of Battle Creek, her aunts and uncles; Dawn (Lyle) Jacobs of Sanford, Linda (George) Lanning of Mio, Lisa (Wally) Nowak of Midland, Mark (Jen) Hickerson of Shepherd, Troy (Marie) Hickerson of Midland, and Katie's church parents, Charles and Judy Saunders of Battle Creek. She is also survived by half-siblings, Renee Zaharias and Rudy Zaharias, both of Texas; a host of very close cousins extended family members, and friends.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Katie's life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Potter's House Church located at 214 Capital Ave NE in Battle Creek at 6:00 p.m. with a time of visitation two hours prior.
Katie always dreamed of Lexie graduating from college. To help continue Katie's dream donations may be made in Katie's memory to https://www.youcaring.com/KatiesGiftToLexie or by going to any Old National Bank (Lexie Turk College Fund).
