Obituary of Alfred Lockman

Alfred Erwin Lockman, 91, a life long resident of Benton Harbor and Coloma passed away peacefully Friday December 8, 2006, at the home of his son and daughter in law in Winter Park, Florida surrounded by his loving family. Alfred was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Edward and Lydia Lachman June 11, 1915. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1933. He married Goldie Mae Harmon in 1936. Al spent over 50 years in the retail grocery business as manager of National Food Stores in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, his own store Al's Super in Coloma and retiring from Hardings Markets in Coloma and Hartford in 1980. After retirement he and his beloved wife Goldie wintered in Florida. During World War II he was subcontracted as an electrician in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Elks Club. Al loved to play golf and looked forward to his annual trips to Biloxi, Mississippi with his golf buddies. Survivors include a son Jerry (Carol) Lockman of Winter Park, FL; a daughter Jane (James) Dinges of Coloma; grandchildren Lori (Todd Moore) Julian of Casselberry, FL; Julie Lockman of Winter Park, FL; Andrew (Mindy) Dinges of St. Joseph; and Sara (Ryan) Sciortino of Hinsdale, IL; he was the proud great-granddad of 8 great-granddaughters Ashley, Alyson and Amanda Julian of Casselberry, FL; Claire and Elizabeth Sciortino of Hinsdale, IL; and triplets , Alexis, Dru and Emily Dinges of St. Joseph and a brother Arvin (Betty) Lachman of Stevensville.. In addition to Goldie his wife for 68 years, Al was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Edgar and infant Eugene and an infant sister Elsie. Cremation has taken place and the memorial service will be held December 28, 2006 at North Shore Memorial Gardens Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services Niles, Michigan.
