Obituary of Susan R. Hodgemire

Susan R. Hodgemire, 53, of Niles, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Niles to Franklin A. and Irma E (Carpenter) Hayslip. Susan worked home healthcare for many years. She enjoyed taking care of people and was more than a job, it was her passion. Many in Niles will remember her from her many years at Dial-A-Ride. Susan loved spending time at Picture Lake in Dowagiac, gardening in the summer and arts and crafts. She mostly enjoyed her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Franklin Hayslip, a daughter, Ranae Ritchie and three sisters, Denise, Frankie and Jackie Hayslip. Susan is survived by her children, Travis (Danielle) Ritchie and Ryan (Jessica) Ritchie, both of Niles, mother, Irma Hayslip of Niles, her grandchildren; Morgan, T.J., Dakota, Logan, Elijah and Autumn, her fiancé, James Williams of Niles, siblings; Peggy Kovacs of Mishawaka, Robert (Claudette) Hayslip of Niles, Paula (John) Salyer of Mishawaka, Sylvia (Wayne) Yaw of Niles and Michael Hayslip of Niles, LeRoy (Louise) Warner of Jackson, Audrey Warner of South Haven, Kathy (Brian) Anderson of Niles, Franklin Hayslip of Sheridan and DJ (Angie) Hayslip of Elkhart, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews co-workers and friends who will greatly miss her. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Susan's life with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 with a prayer service at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Susan's memory to Brown Funeral Home.
