Obituary of Owen Hyink

Owen Edward Hyink, 85, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday May 20th, 2007 at Community Hospital in Watervliet, following an illness. Owen was born on February 12, 1922 in Palos Park, Illinois to the late Henry William and Anna (Bruzek) Hyink. A proud World War II Vet, Owen served in the U.S. Army and was among the few to fight in the battle of Bastone. He received both a purple heart and a bronze star. On September 17, 2005 he married Sherry (Iler) Hall at beautiful Russ Forest Park in Volinia, MI. Owen retired from the Commercial Welding Company as a truck driver in Dowagiac, MI. He also enjoyed shopping for antiques, feeding the birds, gardening, and fishing. Owen is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Henry William Jr. Owen is survived by his wife Sherry Hyink of Dowagiac, three daughters; Patricia Barnhart of South Bend, Linda Carlton of Dowagiac, Diane Groscost of Paw Paw, a son Andy Pickens of Denver, two step-daughters Bethany Hall, and Becca Phelps, a step-son Mathew Hall of Dowagiac, two sisters Gloria Moore, Laurel Rudlaff, six nieces Rose Basinger, Colleen Roach, Pamela Churchill, Susan Hedstrom, Crystal Sprague, Cynthia Custard, five great nieces and nephews, and seven step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday May 24th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services at 521 E. Main St. Niles.
