Walter Dow Patterson, 87, of East Park Drive in Niles, passed away at his home on July 2, 2007 with his family by his side. Walt was born on November 19, 1919 to the late Aaron and Corda (Smith) Patterson in Elkhart, Indiana. Walt was one of 4 children. After high school Walt served in the United States Navy, during World War II. In his free time Walt inkered on cars which led to his becoming an automotive mechanic. On July 27, 1940 Walt was wed to the love of his life, Mary Brown at a ceremony in the South Bend ara. At 60 Walt retired from Sunstrand after many dedicated years of service. Though he retired he never stopped working. Working on cars was not only his job but also his hobby. Along with working on vehicles as a hobby, Walt also spent much of his retired days fishing, gardening with his wife, being outdoors with his dogs and playing with his grandchildren. Walt's best times in life were spent proudly showing off his precious grandchildren to everyone who would listen to him. In Walt's younger days he even spent time rabbit hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Niles Post 26 along with also being a Mason. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Gibson, Sister Mary Hootman and great-great-granddaughter Brooklyn Patterson. Walt is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Mary, Son Dennis (Patricia "Pat") Patterson of Niles, Daughters Janice (Bobby) Morrison of Niles and Marsha (Kenneth) Burger of Niles, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 precious great-great-granddaughter and Sister Juanita Poland of Broken Bow, NE.
