Betty Alice Hickey, 72, of East Main Street in Niles, passed away at Memorial Hospital of South Bend on September 27, 2007. Betty was born on April 15, 1935 to the late Raymond and Alice (Layman) Lindsley in South Bend, Indiana. Betty was raised by Glenn and Alice Snyder. Betty wed the love of her life, James Hickey, at a ceremony in Niles, Michigan. Betty worked as a waitress for many years before working for Simplicity Pattern Co. as a folder. When she wasn't working Betty spent most of her time making crafts for the Westwood Nursing Home, playing Bingo, gardening in her flower bed, going to yard sales and best of all caring for and spoiling her grandchildren. If she wasn't out as a garage sale in her neighborhood she could be found at home eating popcorn and cinnamon toast or at the Plaza Restaurant with her family. Betty was a talker and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere in town; she never met a stranger. Betty was Jim's angel. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father, son Marvin Hickey, 1 great-grandchild and a sister Jean Bybee. Betty is survived by her one true love, Jim, Children Andrew (Debra) Grenert of Elkhart, Vickie Draper of Niles, Laurel "Marie" (Steve) Ingle of Niles, James Hickey Jr. of Mishawaka, IN and Robert (Roberta) Hickey of Buchanan, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, siblings Raymond (Eleanor) Lindsley of Florida, Eva Hamilton of Niles, Ronnie Lindsley of Niles, Richard Lindsley of South Bend, Indiana, Jimmy (Pudge) Lindsley of Niles, Linda Miller of Elkhart, Delores (Art) McAlear of Constantine, MI and Doris Snyder of Elkhart.
