Obituary of Wallace E. Spencer

Wallace E. Spencer, 89, of Niles, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, following an extended illness. In October of 1950, Wallace enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly during the Korean War. On May 10, 1975 Wallace married Era W. Owens at a ceremony in Niles. Wallace worked as a painter for nearly forty years, before his retirement from Fuller O'Brien Paint Company in South Bend. Wallace looked forward to Friday night dances at the VFW and spending time fishing at Big Fish Lake. He also found enjoyment in gardening, woodworking and was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda, a step-son Larry Hamilton and four sisters; Betty Devos, Thelma Kapes, Helen Call and Dorothy Nemuth. Wallace is survived by his wife of 42 years, Era W. Spencer of Niles, his children; Deborah (Dennis) Pipke of Granger, Pamela Eichorst of South Bend, Wally Spencer of Reston, Virginia, Kimberly Spencer of South Bend, Bill (Julie) Spencer of Missouri and Suzanne Spencer of Stevensville, his step-children; Melba (Bruce) Mitchell of Niles, Sharon (Tom) Daus of Niles, Dan (Peggy) Hamilton of Niles, Dennis (Pam) Hamilton of Buchanan and Nella (Bruce) Ralston of Niles, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Beverly Spencer of Missouri. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. An interment will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 51, Buchanan.
