Obituary of Jerome Young

Jerome Young March 14, 1923 October 21, 2007 Jerome Alfred Young, 84, of Shady Shore Drive in Niles, passed away unexpectedly at his home with his family by his side. Jerome was born on March 14, 1923 to the late Homer and Ethel (Pease) Young in Buchanan, Michigan. After graduating from high school in 1941 Jerome wed the love of his life, Leona (Grossman) Young at a ceremony in Mishawaka on December 30, 1945. Together they had 3 wonderful children. Jerome was a very active young man. He could be found waterskiing on Barron Lake during the summers in his younger years. He loved the outdoors and this led to his countless hours fishing with Leona and mushroom hunting. After they both retired they spent their winters down south in Florida or Mexico and their summers were spent in Alaska for 8 years. They took frequent motorcycle rides up north that usually included the entire family. Jerome was also a member of the Four Flags Snowmobile Club in Niles where he could be found grooming the trails for other local riders. Jerome was very mechanical. This led to his career as a machinist where he worked for Studebaker and Torrington. He could fix anything around the house and always kept himself busy. As his health declined, Jerome became more involved in tractor shows, especially ones that included steam engines. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jerome is survived by his wife Leona of nearly 62 years, Daughters Jerri Sayer of Niles and Theresa Young of Holt, MI and Son William "Bill" Young of Niles, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a sister Marjorie Smith of Parma, MI. A memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 11:00 at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services with a time of visitation one hour prior. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Niles.
