Obituary of Robert Ferguson

Robert E. Ferguson, 80, of Niles passed away Friday evening, November 30, 2007, surrounded by his family at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, after a brief illness. Robert was born in Inwood, Indiana on April 28, 1927 to the late Charles and Villa Fern (Nellons) Ferguson. He loved his country and served proudly in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. Robert met and wed the love of his life Lena Woodlee at a ceremony in South Bend, Indiana on March 7, 1952. Robert worked for the Bendix automotive Company for over 32 years as a riveter before retiring. He also was very involved with the Post #26 American Legion where he counted it an honor to perform burial rites for other veteran's who have passed. He was well known by many people all over the community because Robert never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He treasured his family and was a loving husband, wonderful father, and a remarkable grandfather. Preceding him were his parents, a brother Melvin Ferguson and a sister Bernice Ott. Robert was survived by wife, Lena, his daughter Pamela of Niles, his three sons; Ronald (Vincenza) Ferguson of Niles, Robert (Lynn) Ferguson of New Whiteland, Indiana, and Rick Ferguson of Arlington, Texas. Four brothers; Clifford (Barb) Ferguson of Plymouth, Indiana, Donald (Avalee) Ferguson of Plymouth, Indiana, Lloyd (Linda) Ferguson of New Albany, Indiana, Floyd (Carol) Ferguson of Plymouth, Indiana, two sisters Violet Ham and Marjorie Albright both of Plymouth, Indiana, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. with one hour of visitation prior at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51 with the Reverend Billy Reed officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services and also Mission Hills Memorial Chapel.
